SFAF x Student Corps RMHC Fundraising Event – August 24, 2026

This was my first time participating in a fundraising event. When I woke up early that morning, I felt nervous and unsure of myself. I didn’t know how to raise money, and I didn’t know how I could convince other people to support us.
This event was organized jointly by Sunshine For All Foundation and Student Corps. Our goal was to raise money for Ronald McDonald House to help provide food for sick children and their families.
When I arrived at Lexington Depot Square, the sky was gray and cloudy, almost like my mood. I felt nervous and uncertain. Since I arrived early, I worked with two students from Student Corps, our partner for the event, to set up the fundraising table and decorations. We carefully arranged the handmade items and snacks for sale, hoping they would catch the attention of people passing by.
While I was setting everything up, I kept thinking about what I should say and how I could explain our cause in the most convincing way.
To my surprise, before we had even finished setting up the table, an elegant woman walked over and asked what we were doing. When she learned that we were using part of our school break to organize a fundraiser for sick children and families supported by Ronald McDonald House, she donated without hesitation.
Her kindness gave me a lot of courage. I began to realize that the desire to help others can itself be a very powerful force.
So my classmate Jingtong and I picked up the donation box, took some flyers, and started walking into the stores along Lexington Main Street. We introduced Ronald McDonald House to people in detail and shared our own experiences and feelings from the two volunteer activities we had participated in before.
Very quickly, the donations in our box began to grow—$10, $20, $50…
The kindness and generosity of the adults we met deeply touched us as well. Little by little, I stopped feeling so nervous. I became more confident, and I found that I had more and more things I wanted to say.
The sky stayed gray all morning, but inside, my friends and I felt as if the sun were shining brightly. We kept walking all morning without stopping. By the time the heavy rain finally came around noon, we had already raised $150.
This was an unforgettable experience for me. It helped me understand that as long as you truly believe in what you are doing and speak with sincerity, you can touch other people’s hearts.
I hope that next time, I can do even better.
SFAF x Ronald McDonald House Charities SPRINGFIELD Meals from the Heart – June 2026

On June 27, 2026, Sunshine For All Foundation (SFAF) visited Ronald McDonald House Charities of Springfield to prepare a “Meals from the Heart” lunch for families staying at the House. The volunteer team included four student volunteers and three adult volunteers.
Working together in the kitchen, volunteers prepared and served a homemade meal for resident families. The team also helped organize the dining area, support guests, and clean the kitchen and common spaces after the meal service.
During the visit, volunteers had the opportunity to meet and interact with patients and their families. The team connected with guests from different backgrounds, including families from the United States, Vietnam, and Spanish speaking families through conversations and shared moments of encouragement.
This event reflected SFAF’s continued commitment to supporting children and families through service, and meaningful community engagement.
Sunshine For All Foundation Visits Cradles to Crayons Newton – June 2026

On June 12, 2026, Sunshine For All Foundation student leaders Melissa Ng (President), William Tang (Vice President), and Victoria Wang (Vice President) visited the Newton location of Cradles to Crayons (C2C) to learn more about the organization’s mission and impact.
During the visit, our team had the opportunity to interview a Cradles to Crayons representative and gain valuable insight into the organization’s history, growth, and day-to-day operations. We learned how C2C works to provide essential clothing, school supplies, and other necessities to children experiencing homelessness or living in low-income situations.
The discussion also explored the challenges and opportunities involved in nonprofit work, including volunteer engagement, community partnerships, and long-term organizational growth. Through this conversation, our student leaders gained a deeper understanding of how large scale nonprofit organizations create meaningful and sustainable impact within their communities.
In addition to learning about Cradles to Crayons’ work, both organizations exchanged ideas about future collaboration opportunities and ways to further support children and families in need.
SFAF x Ronald McDonald House Charities SPRINGFIELD Meals from the Heart – May 2026

On May 24, 2026, eight student volunteers from Sunshine For All Foundation (SFAF) visited Ronald McDonald House Charities of Springfield to prepare a “Meals from the Heart” lunch for families staying at the House.
Working together in the kitchen, volunteers prepared a variety of homemade dishes including spaghetti and meatballs, fried rice, stir-fried tomatoes and eggs, fresh fruit, cookies, and vegetables. Throughout the event, students collaborated to prepare ingredients, cook meals, organize supplies, and serve food for resident families.
Volunteers also helped clean and organize the kitchen and common areas after lunch service. The event reflected strong teamwork, responsibility, and community spirit among participating students.
This service activity highlights SFAF’s continued commitment to supporting children and families.

SFAF x Ronald McDonald House Charities Volunteer Appreciation Gathering – April 2026

On April 23, 2026, volunteers from Sunshine For All Foundation (SFAF) attended a Volunteer Appreciation Gathering hosted by Ronald McDonald House Charities of Springfield to recognize community groups and individuals who have continuously supported the House.
During the event, representatives from Ronald McDonald House Charities expressed their appreciation for SFAF’s ongoing support and recognized the organization for its strong teamwork and well-organized volunteer efforts. The gathering also introduced many other volunteer groups that have supported the House throughout the years.
Guests were welcomed with food, beverages, and desserts while participating in various appreciation activities. Volunteers planted small potted plants as part of a symbolic activity representing kindness, compassion, and community support. The event also included group photos and opportunities for volunteers and families to connect with other community organizations.
Toward the end of the gathering, volunteers had the opportunity to see children and families returning from hospital treatment, serving as a meaningful reminder of the importance of community care and support.

SFAF x Cradles to Crayons Clothing Sorting and Donation Event – March 2026

On March 14, Sunshine for All Foundation (SFAF) volunteers participated in the second event of the Cradles to Crayons volunteer series. The team worked at the Cradles to Crayons facility to organize donated items collected from various donation sites, including clothing, shoes, toys, and other supplies for children in need.
With guidance from staff members, volunteers inspected donated items for quality, checking for defects, stains, or inappropriate logos and wording. Items that met the standards were sorted by category and placed into designated donation bins to prepare them for distribution.
From 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., volunteers wearing SFAF’s blue shirts worked throughout the facility alongside other volunteer groups, families, and individuals. Two weeks prior to the event, organizer Xuyi Wang coordinated with Lexington High School to set up a donation box in the school’s Main Office, collecting clothing, toys, and school supplies. Volunteers also brought additional donations to the event, and Cradles to Crayons staff expressed appreciation for the large number of items contributed.
This event reflects SFAF’s continued commitment to supporting children and families through community service and volunteer engagement.
SFAF x Ronald McDonald House Charity SPRINGFIELD Meals for Love & Donation – February 2026

On February 21, fourteen students from Lexington High School (grades 9–12) volunteered at Ronald McDonald House Charities of Springfield to prepare a “Meal from the Heart,” assist with house cleaning, and donate essential supplies to families staying at the House.
Despite a winter snowstorm the night before, students arrived on time ready to serve. Working collaboratively, they prepared a hearty lunch, presented donations, and helped tidy common areas. The day reflected strong teamwork, responsibility, and a shared commitment to supporting families facing medical challenges.
This event was student-led and organized by a Lexington High School sophomore, who coordinated planning, fundraising, and logistics over a two-month period. Through school-based bake sales, neighborhood holiday treat sales, and generous support from classmates and community members, nearly $420 in net proceeds was raised to fund the event. The funds covered meal ingredients, supplies, volunteer meals, and eight large boxes of individually wrapped snacks donated to the House.
In addition, a graduating senior contributed her table tennis tournament prize money toward the purchase of a foldable table tennis table, providing a recreational option suitable for the House’s limited space.
Beyond preparing meals and donating supplies, students gained hands-on experience in leadership, budgeting, teamwork, and community engagement. Most importantly, they demonstrated compassion in action by offering encouragement and support to families during challenging times.
This event exemplifies Sunshine For All Foundation’s dedication to developing student-led service initiatives that empower youth while providing meaningful support to children and families in need.
SFAF Volunteers Support 2026 Chinese New Year Gala – February 2026

On February 7, 2026, Sunshine for All Foundation (SFAF) volunteers supported the 2026 Chinese New Year Gala held at Malden High School. The event brought together Chinese seniors and families in the community to celebrate the Lunar New Year.
The team worked from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., assisting with front-desk reception, stage setup and prop coordination, performer organization, activity scoring, prize distribution, and overall event logistics. Throughout the day, volunteers also provided bilingual support in Chinese and English to help ensure clear communication for elderly attendees.
Despite challenging weather conditions, volunteers remained on site for the full duration of the event, helping ensure smooth operations from preparation to closing.
Event organizers from the Huaxia Cultural Association expressed appreciation for the volunteers’ dedication and strong sense of responsibility.
This event reflects SFAF’s continued commitment to community engagement and cultural service initiatives.
SFAF x Cradles to Crayons NEWTON School Supplies Donation – December 2025

On December 5, 2025, Sunshine for All Foundation partnered with Cradles to Crayons to support children in need through a school supplies donation. After weeks of preparation, SFAF volunteers collected five large boxes and two large bags of school supplies, along with $180 in charitable donations, to help families served by the organization.
Volunteers from communities including Lexington, Newton, and Weston worked together to prepare and deliver the donated items to the Cradles to Crayons Newton site.
This event highlights SFAF’s ongoing commitment to supporting children and families through service and strong community partnerships.
SFAF x Ronald McDonald House Charity SPRINGFIELD Pumpkin Fundraiser & Donation – October 2025

In October 2025, Sunshine for All organized a Pumpkin Fundraiser to support the Ronald McDonald House of Springfield. With help from our community, we sold $525 worth of pumpkins and donated the $270 net proceeds to RMHC.
On October 18, our volunteers visited the Springfield house to deliver pumpkins and groceries purchased through the fundraiser. The team also spent the morning preparing a Meals from the Heart lunch for the families staying at RMHC, and helped with organizing and cleaning around the house.

Unite Across Continents to Support Homeless Individuals Affected by Los Angeles Wildfires – February 2025

Amid this crisis, a remarkable cross-continental humanitarian effort emerged, led by Sunshine For All, a student-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Under the leadership of Vice President Selina Liu, Sunshine for All joined forces with two other student-led charitable organizations—America East Culture Communication Association and Heartik in New York—to raise funds for those affected.
This initiative soon grew beyond national borders. A compassion relay spanning 12,000 kilometers quietly unfolded among Boston, New York, New Jersey and Beijing, demonstrating that in the face of disaster, race and nationality should never be barriers to humanity. Young people from both China and the United States came together, proving through action that solidarity knows no borders.
To mobilize donations, Bubble Tea and Cookies Sale fundraiser, rallying support from the local communities.
Volunteers played an active role in promoting the cause, Visiting local businesses to encourage contributions. Their collective efforts resulted in a total of $1,500, which was donated entirely to Union Station Homeless Services, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit providing essential housing and resources to those in need.
More than just a fundraising effort, this initiative symbolized a deeper connection—a bridge of material aid and a bond of cultural exchange. It exemplified how youth-driven activism can transcend geographical and cultural divides, fostering mutual understanding and shared responsibility in times of crisis.
“The Hunt for Jimmie Browne” – Sunshine For All Foundation – August 2024

After more than three months of meticulous planning, the “Hunt for Jimmie – A Journey of Love Sacrifice and Peace” seminar was held on August 28 at the Sheraton Commander Hotel in Boston. Organized by Sunshine For All Foundation and several other organizations, the event drew enthusiastic participants from all walks of life. Through the moving story of Jimmie Browne, an American pilot who flew the “Hump” route during World War II, the seminar aimed to remind people to remember history, cherish peace, and strengthen the friendship between China and the United States.

SFAF x Ronald McDonald House Charity BOSTON HARBOR Meals for Love & Donation

A team of volunteers representing the Sunshine for All Foundation visited the Ronald McDonald House Charity (RMHC) in Boston Harbor on New Years Eve, 2023 to prepare a New Year Dinner the children and families staying at the Boston Harbor location.
The team worked together to prepare spaghetti and meatballs, beef stew, and clam chowder and fruit salad for over 20 families who were staying at RMHC at the time.
Additionally, volunteers worked to help RMHC by assembling various new furniture pieces donated by SFAF to RMHC and working to set up a new Nintendo Switch system for the RMHC kids.
SFAF x Ronald McDonald House Charity SPRINGFIELD Meals for Love & Donation

On August 27, 2023, 10 young volunteers representing the Sunshine for All Foundation and Student Corps visited Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of Springfield, Massachusetts, to support them with housework and cooking.
The volunteers all did their best to help RMHC in many areas, picking up trash around the building, preparing packages filled to the brim with beautiful handcrafts and scrumptious snacks for future residents, organizing pull tabs from soda cans, and recycling cans and collecting deposit fees. They also prepared a delectable lunch consisting of homemade pizza, chicken wings, spring rolls, and more, for all the families staying there.
Additionally, SFAF members donated used crayons and wrote heartfelt cards to welcome future residents at RMHC. SFAF provided a spring box and mattress.
Their help was greatly appreciated by the house manager and the residents and every volunteer was glad to have helped improve the quality of today for numerous families.
The SFAF is planning more events in the future to continuously support RMHC.
SFAF x Ronald McDonald House Charity SPRINGFIELD Meals for Love & Donation

Volunteers from Sunshine For All Foundation and Student Corps Lexington Minuteman Chapter joined forces today, August 5th, 2023, to provide a heart-warming meal for families at Ronald McDonald House (RMHC) Springfield. They cooked/provided a variety of foods, including salad, grilled and cold sandwiches, friend rice, chips, watermelon, garlic bread, onion rings, chicken wings, and stir-fry. In total, they provided food for the entirety of RMHC Springfield’s 14 families. In addition to providing a warm meal Sunshine For All Foundation contributed a much-needed industrial carpet cleaner for the house.
RMHC Springfield gave a tour to the SFAF and SC students, and the students were able to meet many of the kids at the RMHC. There were families from across the globe, coming to seek treatment, including families from Turkiye, France, and Nigeria. Despite the language barrier, volunteers and RMHC guests found a common language: video games (namely, PUBG and Clash Royale), and developed fast friendships. There were optimistic good-byes and “see you soon” at the end of the visit.
This is the second time that Student Corps Lexington Minutemen have partnered with RMHC Springfield and a first for SFAF. There were many similarities between RMHC Springfield and RMHC Boston, but a key similarity is that now are both close partners with SFAF. Student Corps and SFAF leaders have planned a joint fundraiser to raise funds for a future RMHC visit later in August. To date, this has been the most meaningful meeting with RMHC for students and families.

Leo Qian:
It was so great to get to work with Ronald McDonald House Boston and to be able to make an impact in their patients’ day-to-day lives. The staff at RMHC were very friendly and outgoing, and it was wonderful to get to know them and their situation. I was very glad to help out and provide some necessary resources to them.
Adi Gulati:
This location is almost always filled to capacity and requires more space for residents; in the future, helping shoulder the burden on an entire new unit could be a possible idea. Ride-app gift cards to replace public transport would be greatly appreciated by resident families.
Yu Yang Ng:
The building we visited was an apartment complex 250 1st Avenue by the Boston Harbor. We learned 30% of the funds from McDonald from the customers goes to the RMHC Foundation. RHMC offers apartments to parents with children up to 21 years old. The parents of the children receive the unit for free up to 3 months; if their child need further treatment, they can extend their stay for a longer period. During the Covid-19 Pandemic, the members of RHMC members volunteered to bring food the parents’ doors, instead of going to get food at a certain place. Different families have different dietary requirements, some welcomes volunteers to make food for them, others prefer not to. Since the hospital is approximately five miles from the apartment complex, the foundation provides advantages such as uber-gift cards because there is no direct public transportation to send the parents; as it would usually exchange a couple of shuttle buses along the way. From what I learned most importantly from the RHMC meeting however, children not only in the country but also internationally come to Boston to have treatment, I feel grateful that RHMC appreciates our efforts, that we can help contribute to reach the ultimate goal, saving the lives of many children along the way. I hope I can help as much as possible in the future.
Jacob Pan:
The fact that the operation takes place in an apartment complex makes it more difficult for us to contribute in meaningful ways moving forwards. Additionally, it is not actually the kids we should be targeting, since they aren’t around as often. Instead, we need to provide things that will target the parents or the organization as a whole. Social lives and education for the children is also a concern as they will miss out on formative years of their lives. Making this issue known to the foundation and providing a solution will increase our rep with them. We can provide Chromebooks for the foundation as something that seems massive but it is not too expensive for us. We can mark them somehow, with wrapping or painting to make the users remember us when they see it. They can be given to the children during their stay or to the parents as a way to access a computer if they don’t have one. The transportation gift cards such as Uber or Lyft may seem enticing but I suggest we find another way to help their transportation issues without just giving them gift cards. Simply giving gift cards won’t leave any lasting impression on the people or the foundation as they are just pure money. We could perhaps get cards printed with our logo on them, such as Charlie Cards, that users would see everytime they used it, leaving a reminder of our organization in something essential. The cooking group also will be good for pictures and PR but won’t leave a large impression, therefore we should get volunteers for that sparingly and focus on other aspects more instead.
Peishiuan Lin:
I think what the RMHC need is not money, they want supplies and volunteers that can help their community.
We can give the kids there some education or lecture such as, read a simple kids book, teach them alphabets, that will help them a lot, because like what the manager said, those kids do not go to school due to their mental or physical issues, so it will be great if we can be there and help them.
We also heard from the manager that there’s a lack of medical care, and the hospitals are far away from their building, which I don’t know if they have a nurse office in the building or somewhere that they can handle minor injuries.
SFAF Student Tutoring Program Initiation | 3/30/23
